Abstract
Moved by the current growing entropy in international poli-tics at all levels, the members of PIN (The Processes of Inter-national Negotiation) located at the German Institute ofGlobal and Areas Studies (PIN-GIGA), on the suggestion ofits member, Moty Cristal, have undertaken the followingeffort to produce ideas or short-term measures that can beof use before the current System of World Disorderbecomes a World Order System again.Inspired by the changing nature of contemporary conflictsand the challenges they pose to conventional diplomacy,members of the PIN network held theirfirst conference onthe topic“New Diplomacy for New Types of Conflict”atGIGA on 2–3 July 2018. Thefindings provided the founda-tions for the present special issue. Revised versions of sev-eral articles were presented at the 2019 ISA AnnualConvention in Toronto, and at the 2019 GLOBSEC Forum inBratislava.The editors would like to thank Isabelle Talpain-Long, theConflict Management Program Coordinator at SAIS, and Mar-kus Kirchschlager, the PIN coordinator at GIGA, for their con-tinuous support on this project.
